I don't believe religion is a choice. All my friends (online and face-to-face) who have gone soul searching have innately known when they found the religion for them. When people give religious advice, it's commonly to "find the one that best fits with what you believe." This would have no meaning if we didn't already have an idea of what we believe. If we gained this subconscious knowledge from our primary religious source (commonly parents,) then there would be no unrest, no reason to change. In 99% of the friend groups I've seen, religion does not become a topic of discussion until someone is questioning their faith, so that cannot be a source of 'knowing' the right religion.
Also, if one could simply choose their religion, I doubt there would be any Agnostics at all. (I define Agnosticism as having belief that something may or may not be Out There.)
So I ask you, the reader, if you could do a little exercise with me. I want you to stop believing in your religion for a few minutes. If you're Scientologist, Agnostic, Atheist, or some other term for describing your lack of total belief, try being religious for a few minutes.
